Is your Ducati dry clutch getting louder?

In this article, we explain why your Ducati dry clutch might be getting louder, and how to resolve this common issue.

The sound on a Ducati dry clutch is noticeably louder when the gap between the friction plates and the basket is excessive. As the gap widens, wear increases.

Running your clutch with too much of a gap between the tabs of the friction plates and the tangs in the basket will permanently create indents on the basket which will eventually cause premature friction plate wear.

If your clutch basket shows signs of grooves where it makes contact with the friction plates it will need to be replaced. Otherwise, your clutch plates will wear prematurely the same as when using a new drive chain with old sprockets.

The maximum allowable gap between the tabs and the basket is .5mm

Measure the thickness of your clutch plates and replace them if they are less than 3.25mm in case of the single sided plates or 2.15mm for double sided. Out of spec plates can cause clutch slippage.
